I woke up this morning to discover that the kitchen faucet did not work. I sent in a maintenance request to my landlord and nothing else really happened until just a couple hours ago. When the pipes started to thaw, there was a burst. The area between my door and the neighbors, the kitchen, and the bathroom all soon had a good inch to two inches of water. I made the necessary calls and was lucky enough to have some very kind people come in, stop the water, tear open the wall, and fix the pipe. They had to leave because I was far from the only person having this issue. They said someone was gonna come by and soak up the water, but no one has been able to come yet (this is happening all over town so I doubt anyone will come today). I took every towel and wash rag in the house and soaked up as much water as possible. I wringed out the towels and rags and hung them up to dry with a combination of dirty laundry and strategically placed bowls placed under them to catch the drips. I used up half a roll of paper towels to try to soak up whatever remaining water I could.

He examined everything again and once again, pulled some black pieces out of the faucet. He told me not to adjust the water shutoff valves and indicated that pieces of the washer inside the valve were what was blocking up the faucet which would not surprise me as this place was built in 1920 and I've had more shit break here in the 6 months I've lived here than in the 6 years I lived in my last apartment. It's been a month or so and both the new faucet and washer seem to be working fine. I'm living with a bathroom sink that blasts water when fully on by being careful not to turn it fully on. This is not ideal and I've been meaning to contact the property manager about replacing the shutoff valve and washers. Yesterday, I got a text from him saying that the contractor told him my portable washer was likely the culprit for the issues with the first faucet and he thought it might be causing high water pressure in the faucet. Questions: Is this possible? Based on my admittedly very poor knowledge of plumbing, I'm not under the impression that a washing machine can cause high water pressure in the faucet.

Faucet is leaking or dripping from the spout. This troubleshooting document relates to standard, pull-out, and pull-down kitchen faucets. Description of the Issue: With this issue, water will drip from the end of the spout after the water has been turned off at the handle. Causes for the Leak Temporary leak: Dirt or debris has collected in the aerator, the screen located at the end of the spout. This drip lasts for a minute or two after the faucet is turned off. Continuous leak: The valve/cartridge under the handle that controls the flow of water has worn out. This is characterized by a constant leak that occurs all day after the faucet is turned off. Solution for the Leak Temporary leak solution: Remove the aerator from the end of the spout and soak it in a 50/50 solution of warm water and white vinegar. This solution will help break down any hard water build up that has occurred within the aerator. Rinse the aerator with water prior to reinstalling. Continuous leak solution: Resolve the issue by replacing the valve/cartridge that is located beneath the handle.

Now, the faucets are set to dripping, the sink cabinet doors are open, and the door leading from the area between the shared walkway and outside is closed. I'm waiting for whoever's supposed to come to fix the wall and clean the water to show up. I'm gonna take off work tomorrow (I'm only scheduled for 4. 5 hours and it's not safe to drive on the roads anyway) to clean as much as possible, talk to the maintenance person, and do some much needed laundry. I'm pretty stressed about the whole situation right now. Everything is wet. Everything is dirty. I will have to leave my coworkers hanging (we're under staffed as is). There's a huge hole in my bathroom wall. The kitchen and doorway is still soaked. I'm worried about water damage (even though I rent, I still feel bad about it). I'm just not having a good time. I don't know if there's something I could have done to prevent this or something I could have done to make the situation better. I just really need some words of encouragement right now, dads.
