When the grandmother tried to intervene, Singleton threw her to the ground. " According to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, this is the very type of violent crime she feared when they originally asked for $50, 000 bond. After the new charges emerged, her office filed the appeal. Ogg said: "In my career I have not seen the court do this. I think it's important to understand we've taken a balanced approach. We don't want the epidemic to attack those in jail, but I have a duty to protect the public safety of ordinary law-abiding people, and habitual offenders like Timothy Singleton should be in jail. " If even far-left DA Kim Ogg is saying the man belongs in jail, that should tell you something. Steve Shellist, a trial attorney with no involvement in the Singleton case said that the appeals court move is not the norm. He has never seen the judges raise bond. In fact, the opposite is typical, with the courts ordering the dollar amount to be lowered. "When you've got violent offenders, and (judges are) weighing out the protection of the community versus COVID-19 within the jails, you've got to satisfy the protection of the community first.

HOUSTON, TX – When you think of cities with a violent crime problem, what cities do you think of? New York? Chicago? Los Angeles? Baltimore? Sure. But you would be remiss if you didn't include Houston, Texas in the mix. According to KTRK ABC13, a violent Thursday night bled into Friday morning across the Bayou City, leaving seven people dead or wounded in four shootings. The most violent of the shootings involved an ambush in a southeast Houston apartment. The ABC affiliate reports: "Four people were found shot in an apartment in southeast Houston overnight. Three of them died. The fourth victim survived, but he is in critical condition. Doctor's say his injuries are severe and he may not make it. The shooting happened around 1:10 a. m. on Ward near Calhoun. Police say the four friends were hanging out in an upstairs apartment when two men shot them. It's not clear if the group knew the shooters, but officials said that drug paraphernalia was in the apartment, and this was likely a robbery.
